Shōin Hall – A Masterpiece of Traditional Japanese Architecture
Shōin Hall is a beautifully crafted wooden structure that faithfully recreates the elegance of shoin-zukuri, a classic style of Japanese residential architecture.
The building consists of several refined rooms, including “Jōdan-no-ma” (Raised Room), “Ichi-no-ma” (First Room), “Ni-no-ma” (Second Room), and “Toritsugi-no-ma” (Connecting Room). The spacious 18-mat “Ichi-no-ma” and “Ni-no-ma” can be used as independent rooms, separated by fusuma (sliding doors) and intricately designed ranma (transom panels).
One of the hall’s most distinctive features is its “Kakezukuri” (overhanging structure), where a portion of the veranda extends over the pond, offering a stunning, unobstructed view of the garden below.
